Location
For good reasons, Phuket is one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations. A trip to the area is complete when staying at one of the many 5-star resorts on the island. Melia’s five-star resort has something for everyone, from stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters to bustling nightlife and delicious Thai food. The resort is on the longest coast in the area, making water adventures highly accessible.
Also relevant: the hotel is approximately 7km from the Marine Turtle Foundation, 15 km from the airport, and 40 km from Phuket Old Town.
Melia is located near the airport and faces the sea, yielding fantastic scenery in the daytime and evening. Whether you’re looking to spend your days lounging by the pool, in your room, or adventuring around to see everything this beautiful island offers, the villas on the resort are the perfect place to call home.
Rooms and Amenities
The Melia Resort in Phuket, Thailand, offers guests three different room styles. In my case, I booked the one-bedroom wellness villa with a private pool. There is also a one-bedroom suite with an outdoor bathtub and a one-bedroom villa with a private pool. Ultimately, the room package I selected includes extra wellness options, which made for an excellent choice, especially given the rainy weather.
The Wellness Villa room selection is perfect for unwinding from intense stress and everyday life. It’s rare to feel so taken care of and pampered; the masseuses during my daily massages and staff for other activities at the resort went beyond the standard level of treatment I’ve received at other establishments.
The room is spectacular and modern, which you will see from the pictures below. You’ll notice a remarkable bathroom space for grooming with a large shower and bathtub, a well-designed terrace that naturally alleviates stress, and of course, the private pool.
I listed out a few additional wellness benefits given by booking this room, which is:
- An outdoor vitamin-C shower,
- An ultrasonic essential oil diffuser, and
- Tempur-Pedic pillows to sleep on.
Restaurants and Bars
Regarding food and drink, Melia Phuket Karon Resort has a few options: SASA, GAIA, and Elyxr Café. Each space is unique in design and pairs well with the food presentation, creating an inclusive experience I’d want to enjoy again.
GAIA was beautiful because the open-concept kitchen allowed guests to see how enthusiastic chefs prepared food. SASA was more focused on breakfast and Southeast Asian cuisine. Lastly, the café provided an excellent atmosphere to relax and enjoy coffee and snacks. Check out the pictures below to see how impressive each space was elegantly constructed.
Activities
There are plenty of activities to keep guests entertained at Melia in Phuket, Thailand. From swimming and sunbathing by the pool to exploring the local sights and attractions, there is something for everyone to enjoy. There are even cooking lessons for learning how to make authentic Thai food!
You can understand how this resort focuses on its guests’ wellness from the following list of on-site activities. First and foremost, the resort offers access to YHI Spa, where you want to pamper yourself and recuperate from everyday life. The spa creates the perfect blend of physical and soulful healing with many treatments. There are also yoga sessions on the beach, which can be with a group or booked in private, and a gym to work out.
An activity I was surprised to see was horse riding on the beach; this would make for a perfect couples’ excursion. On the same theme, guests can also plan for a picnic on the beach. This hotel is known to be great for weddings, and with Valentine’s Day approaching, these are good ideas to consider.
Time at the spa pairs well with the tropical pools at the resort, which are large enough to swim laps. The water is fantastic and perfectly clean and clear. The gallery of images below shows how peaceful and scenic the pool area is.
The resort offers a range of excursions and tours, and activities for children so guests can make the most of their time in Phuket. Most notable is to visit the Turtle Foundation.
The Turtle Foundation
While I could not make it to the Turtle foundation due to the miserable weather, I knew this was an important topic to write about.
With its pristine waters, dazzlingly white sand, and swaying coconut palms, it’s no wonder that this secluded beach has become one of the must-see attractions for travellers across Southeast Asia. The Turtle Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and conserving sea turtles in Phuket, Thailand. This group was founded by a group concerned about the decline in the population of these amazing creatures. The Turtle Foundation runs a hatchery and rehabilitation centre. The hatchery is open to the public, and visitors can see baby turtles being born and released into the wild. The rehabilitation centre cares for injured or sick turtles to the point when they are healthy enough to be released into the ocean.
The Turtle Foundation also works to raise awareness about the importance of conserving these endangered animals. They offer educational programmes for local schools and communities, as well as for tourists who come to visit Phuket. When you visit the Turtle Foundation, you can see these amazing creatures up close. You will also be able to learn about their habits and behaviours, as well as the work that the Foundation does to protect them.
